Manila 6/30/15

Tuesday we geared up for a long day of serving and loving on the kids in the Santa Rosa, Laguna neighborhood of south Manila.  We were blessed with the opportunity to return to Learning Links (a private school) to share lessons on being CONFIDENT.  The children of the school were full of joy as Ashley, Noah, and Kaito shared the story of David and Goliath, created crafts together, and presented them with the magical box filled with the most important person in the world—they looked inside and saw their own reflection in the mirror — their reactions were absolutely precious! Aaron, Antonio, Lyndsey, and Paige led the children in worship.  The children had SO MUCH FUN as we danced, sang, and sweated together!  We invited them to join us at Saddleback at the Monochrome this upcoming Saturday for weekend services.  We can’t wait to see those sweet faces again this weekend! :)

While part of our team was at Learning Links in the morning, the other part of the team went to the church office to help clean and organize.  Abi, Aiden, Emily, Hunter, Jeremy, Julia, Sophia,  and Zach joined Jorin (the SK Director here in Manila) to clean toys for the young children of SK Manila, organize office materials, prepare the lesson for this weekend’s service, and generally do whatever we could to help our fellow Saddleback family. In the early afternoon this part of the team joined the others at Learning Links to work with a few more classes.

In the late afternoon a thunderstorm came through which caused us to change our afternoon plans for mission work.  Luckily we were able to send a small team to a local school (public school) to share sandwiches with many children who could definitely benefit from an afternoon snack.  Although there was a bit of a language barrier, both our team and the children of this area speak the universal language of smiles and laughter.  What an amazing blessing to be a part of this mission.  We really can’t wait to return with the full team on Thursday afternoon.

We’re technically at the point in the trip where we have fewer days left to serve than we’ve been here.  The consensus is that we’re not ready for this trip to end. God has truly blessed this team — we are unified in our desire and actions to glorify God as we serve the children here in south Manila.
