SK Rwanda Day 2 (6/17/19)

A totally different day, in many ways, as far as ministry-focus but equally if not even more impactful and meaningful.  Still cannot believe it is only day #2 and these days have been FILLED with life-change.  Today's "theme", if you will, was more about building their heart of COMPASSION for their Rwandan brothers and sisters.  And that was WELL done...

The morning was spent first visiting the new PEACE Plan offices where they were orientated by Joel and JP who are on the Rwandan PEACE Team Staff.  The team was quite inquisitive asking wonderful questions to learn about Rwanda, its people, its history, and more.  Great conversations to kick-off the day.

From there we headed to the Kigali Genocide Memorial.  It was a brutally heartbreaking experience but likewise such a positively powerful time of remembering and learning.  While the reflection on history brought lots of tears, heart heaviness, and pain it also was a beautiful reminder of how much Rwanda has risen from the ashes.  Also, it is a sobering reminder that (as JP so eloquently stated) "even though there were many who believed in God, calling themselves Christians during the time of the genocide, there were very few disciples.  Yes, we need believers but more importantly we NEED disciples."  That is our prayer not just for Rwanda, but for the United States and all around the world.  May we truly be living testimonies of our faith, showing what we believe in by our good deeds.

After another delicious lunchtime meal, the team was ready for a flexible afternoon.  Instead of the originally planned ministry the team showed incredible fast, fluid flexibility changing to home visits instead.  God intricately and perfectly wove together today as the home visits were an extension of their hearts of compassion growing.  4 smaller teams went through a sector designated by the government for widows of genocide survivors.  The teams heard their stories, prayed over them, and delivered small tokens of appreciation.  To hear the challenges they face because of the family they lost in the genocide is unreal. Our hearts were broken yet equally ignited into passion to be true disciples of and for Jesus.

Everyone had some GREAT rest the night prior so they were energized and ready to go today.  Pray nonetheless still for rest that will continue to drive and support their long days.  Pray for their focuses to stay on each day's ministry without wandering beyond or even especially to home already.  Pray for ongoing unity in the body of Christ as the team is working HARD together in beautiful ways. Pray for lives changed here in Rwanda and carried back home to the US.  Love you guys!
