Today we were up before dawn pounding the pavement in groups to distribute flyers outside local schools inviting families to join us for a free screening of Zootopia on Thursday night! It was a beautiful morning to reach out to people with a smile and a "buen dia" and invite them to the church campus. Walking briskly in the cold morning on the city's first day back after a four- day weekend, we enjoyed seeing the shopkeepers opening their shops, hosing down the sidewalks, and people bustling about as they went back to work and school. After morning devotions, the Saddleback pastor Sebastian and his wife Ceci joined our team for a traditional Argentinian meal with such delicacies as blood sausage, Provolenta, and even intestine. Some kids were brave enough to try the intestine. (I wasn't.) Tonight we came back to church to make ourselves available for English speaking practice as well as talk to the children's ministry here about Kids Small Groups. All the kids are excited to share their experiences over the years and encourage church leaders about the program. The round table didn't start until 8:30 so we may have to skip our late night "vegetable" run tonight.

We visited a children's group home today in the outskirts of Buenos Aires. There are currently 19 children cared for by one amazing woman named Esther, who opened this home and started caring for abandoned children 27 years ago. Every child there has a heartbreaking story, and one we learned about today was about a sweet little infant named Mia left on the side of the road by her mother before Esther welcomed another of God's children into her home. Esther loves and cares for these children the best she can, but life is hard and living conditions are less than ideal. To be able to share a day of hugs, smiles, futbal, baseball, making pizza and decorating cookies together, everyone enjoyed this special time even as our hearts broke for these kids.
Not everyone was able to visit the home, so the crew that stayed back did some home visits, taking groceries to some families in need. One family was so touched by the church support they received, they posted a beautiful commentary on Facebook along with a photo of themselves with the team that prayed with them. They also had a great day of fellowship while they helped around the church -- cleaning, painting, and organizing.
