SK Rwanda Day 6 (6/21/19)

As the relationships get to grow and blossom it just becomes sweeter and sweeter...amongst our 7 students on this trip AND our Rwandan friends.  The teams had a final day of separation as they ministered to the separate EAR preschools but it was beautiful and bittersweet as always.

Team 1 (Michael, Claudia, Bella, Chris, Kennedy, Didi, Robbie, Michelle, & Dakota)
After getting a better "lay of the land" from yesterday's visit with 125 kids and pretty severe poverty & hunger, the team was ready to go with a clear game plan.  The adults really drove the cause today so that the students can purely and wonderfully spend time just being with the kids.  And today was a BIG day as they taught the Bible story of Jesus feeding the 5000.  It tied in, by no accident, as the day prior we gave the kids an impromptu snack of what appeared to be loaves from team Samuelson's protein bars.  Then today figured we'd cap it off with then giving the kids goldfish crackers and juice to meet a very practical need after the day prior's assessment.  And the smiles were ear-to-ear as these kids couldn't believe they were being given a snack....at school.  To add icing on the cake each child was blessed with a bag of rice and beans to take home as a reminder of God's provision and love for each of them.  It was powerful as one mom came to pick up her preschooler only to find her with a heavy-laden bag.  She peered into the bag, spoke with her child, stared into Michelle's eyes, looked back in the bag, zipped it up, and gave Michelle the deepest hug ever.  That is the power of Jesus' love felt and experienced.  Praying for it to reverberate throughout the EAR school after what team 1 did...it was no small feat but it left a HUGE impression on the hearts of the teachers and students and the entire community.

Team 2 (Karyce, Jodi, Conor, Allan, Dylan, Jennifer, & Sarah
The time started all together with all 3 classes.  Hearing the echo of "My God is So Big" must be what heaven will sound like...never gets old wherever we get to sing and dance it out.  And the Good Samaritan skit was a great hit to start off our time.
Then, what a unique opportunity to lift up the nature SHAPE given to a team member, as Teacher Jodi was requested to bless each of the 3 classrooms with about 30 minutes of teaching.  And the kids fabulously assisted with circle time singing, dancing, placing colored hearts on the whiteboard, and using shekels for mathematics.  From the babies class to middle and then top, Teacher Jodi was a shining star blessing the kids and teachers with creative new ways to learn, converse, and experience school.  And truly each team member stepped up in a variety of ways be it doing a craft in the other classrooms, wrestling for what seemed like a 2-hour recess, or swinging joyful kiddos around in the sea of bubble blowing.  Truly, it was a HOT day but everyone persevered to give this school their best as they shone Jesus' love in everything they said and did.

And again we were all eager to reunite in the afternoon as we headed back to be with the Dream Kids of Africa New Life.  The team was STELLAR in their preparations truly bringing just exactly what God needed and wanted.  Chris kicked us off with the power of his story connecting deeply and personally to the hearts of the kids there.  Then with some more "My God is So Big" and skit funniness (the Parable of the Sower) the team brought fun and energy to perfectly support Chris' teaching.  Of course no afternoon would be complete without some massive FUN with bubbles, jump ropes, and soccer balls.  The team truly left their hearts out on the field as they pushed through the most hot and humid weather of our time.  Though most of our kids were covered in red dirt from running around, their faces were also covered with joy and appreciation for all we got to do today.  And to wrap up the time there Dakota shared her heart story out on the field so each of the kids would have one final reminder of God's everlasting reckless love for each of them.  Another day going down in the memory and moments book for SURE!

The team has definitely reached the "toughest part" of the trip as there is still a weekend full of ministry left yet energy is waning and ironically then too the weather has gotten hotter/stickier.  While we may be knocked down, we are most certainly NOT knocked out.  Just a day that we had to much more intentionally push through.  Pray for the same determination to endure through this weekend as we are surely but sadly reaching the conclusion of our time in Rwanda faster than we could realize. Pray for continued health, unity, and pure joy to abound in this SK 2019 Rwanda PEACE Team.  Great things still to come through the weekend. Stay tuned!
