SK Argentina: DAY TWO (by Erin Johnson)

Everyone arrived safe and sound! Saturday was exhausting and exhilarating at the same time. Out hotel rooms are just as nice as the Internet pictures and the beds felt like a little piece of Heaven last night after our long and wonderful first day. After checking in, we all met for lunch at a pizzeria down the street. Then the team split up and some families cleaned up and unpacked while other families walked to DISCO, the local supermarket, to shop for breakfast food for 26 people. We dropped 3,699 pesos on 2 carts of goods and our team was off to church! After an invigorating 1-mile walk we were welcomed to Saddleback Buenos Aires with open arms, warm smiles, and big kisses (the Argentinian way to say hello!) It was so neat to see a church in another hemisphere with people in "Saddleback Kids" shirts and the signature Saddleback phrase "church for people who don't go to church" in Spanish on the outside of the building. It's worship together weekend so YMS (youth ministry) was the worship band and they were AWESOME! We heard some familiar favorites like "I will trust in you." Then we were able to listen to the sermon on headphones in English. (Only a few kids fell asleep during the service.) :) Then upstairs to work in Saddleback Kids with the adorable kiddos. Even with a language barrier the kids had great fellowship cuddling, playing football, drawing pictures, and hanging out together. Even though we don't speak Spanish, we were all there to worship, study the Word, and serve the same great God. After the second service we had dinner at church with the SK volunteers from Buenos Aires. Walking home at 10:30 pm, we found a vegetable store that agreed to serve 25 exhausted foreigners instead of closing up shop. By midnight we were all safely tucked cozily in bed.

Waking rested and refreshed bright and early this morning we all had coffee and breakfast in our rooms before meeting together to do devotions, enjoy fellowship, and prep for tomorrow's conference. Key impression from Saturday was the passion and genuineness of the volunteers at the church! It felt like we were old friends, right from the start. It is easy to see why people would want to come to Saddleback Buenos Aires! Being with the team, we felt right at home.
Today during our full day of planning and practicing for the big PDCM conference (Purpose Driven Children's Ministry), hearing emotional testimonies and heartfelt stories from our teammates, the team shared laughter and tears. The kids got to know each other a little better, the parents grew a little closer, and everyone connected with Jesus in new ways. Can't wait to see how God works through everyone tomorrow!
